"High-end Hobbit Hole"

Dyed Box Elder Burl, 24k Gold, Silk
3.5" diameter x 3" tall
In Private Collection

A diminutive treat! Turning this vessel, tiny strands of wood curled out of the natural opening, reminding me of the tufts of grass that surround a Hobbit's domicile. Yet this is no ordinary Hobbit Hole -- indeed it is only fit for the most opulent of residents.

The natural edged opening is gilded with 24k gold, from which emerges a 100% silk ribbon, which wends its way around the vessel, undulating through the visual texture of the burl, climbing back in through the hole on the other side, the variegated browns reminscent of tangled tree roots. The silk ends are left long, a visual surprise for the interior.
