"Never Seen Blue"
Materials: Dyed Hardwoods, Acrylic, Cubic Zirconia gemstone, Sterling Silver
This hook is inspired by "Never Seen Blue" from the From the Choirgirl Hotel album era. (B-side). I'm sure you've guessed that this line struck me particularly: "some boy you are to wear my color red..."
I combined "Cherrywood," "Passion," and "Indigo" Dyed Hardwoods, and turned a pleasing shape. I then hand carved the decoration at the top, and painted it with metallic gold acrylic, adding some splashes of reds and coppers to give it a more jewel-like quality. Set in Sterling Silver findings, I added a Cubic Zirconia gemstone, (not a crystal, a real CZ), into the bead at the top of the hook, and boy does it sparkle!
This is a 3mm, brilliant-cut stone, but every way I try to photograph it, the light reflects off the top facet, so it looks white in the photo. In the hand, though, it sparkles quite prolifically! Obviously, the carved ornamentation does have a little texture to it, so I made sure to put it far enough to the top of the hook that it won't rub your hand whether you use the "knife" or "pencil" hold. This goes for the cubic zirconia as well -- it won't even come close to touching your hand! Smooth as glass! Size 7 (4.5 mm) (Between G and H), about eight inches long. Heirloom quality.
