"Girl Disappearing"

Materials: Holly, Dyed Hardwood, Peridot Gemstone, Sterling Silver, Acrylic

This hook is inspired by "Girl Disappearing" from the American Doll Posse album. (The lines that kept ringing in my head were: "Envy can spread / Herself so thinly / She slipped in / Before I could notice it").

I began this hook with brilliant white Holly, a sort of tribute to the relative innocence of the protagonist of the song... then added a thin band of "Jadewood" Dyed Hardwood, which "slipped in" so easily. This hook is also from my new Unexpected Details series, and I included a tiny little "bead" before moving to the finial. I hand-carved swirls and swirls, painted them with metallic greens, shading lighter toward the top of the hook. (A little reference to the dissipation of jealousy over time). I then added a 3 mm Peridot gemstone set in Sterling Silver. (The stone is MUCH more sparkly than the picture seems to show -- it is a round, brilliant-cut stone, and completes the design perfectly!)

This ornamentation does have a little texture to it, so I made sure to put it far enough to the top of the hook that it won't rub your hand whether you use the "knife" or "pencil" hold. This goes for the peridot as well -- it won't even come close to touching your hand! This piece is signed with my artist's mark. Size K+ (7 mm), just under eight inches long. Heirloom quality.
