"Beauty of the Far East"

Materials: "Pumpkin," "Fiji Orange," and "Lemonwood" Dyed Hardwoods, Spalted Curly Cinnamon

Merlion, Raffles Hotel, the isle of Sentosa; this hook reminds me infinitely of Singapore, the East India Company, white linen on hot days, and monsoon rains that pour down every afternoon at three o'clock. Orchard Road, the silks and saris of Little India, and hot curry puffs eaten from pandan leaves. Ancient maps, scrawling signatures of long-lost sailors, burnished wood planking on a white-sailed ship docking in the harbor.

I hand-turned this hook from dyed and laminated hardwood that's been impregnated with resin and densified, thus made extremely strong and durable, and also resistant to temperature variations and moisture. I combined deep orange "Pumpkin," with "Fiji Orange" and "Lemonwood" Dyed Hardwoods, and finished with Spalted Curly Cinnamon, which I imported straight from the Pacific herself -- Hawaii. Super smooth and wonderful presence! Size J (6 mm), eight inches long. Heirloom quality.
