"Flame"

Materials: "Lemonwood" Dyed Hardwood, Acrylic

A flame bursts from the inferno, a lick of gold, of amber. A flame erupts from the surface of the sun: loops of fire singe black space. A flame appears from the darkness of the forest: fiery Firebird, glorious Phoenix!

The lovely shapes of the flames were dancing through my head as I was turning this hook -- she wanted to be decorated in the glorious colors of fire! After I hand-turned this hook out of "Lemonwood" Dyed Hardwood, I carved a firey design that wraps all the way around the hook, flames spiralling to the very top! I then used metallic acrylic to intensify this effect, applying coppers and reds to give a "molten" look.

This ornamentation does have a little texture to it, so I made sure to put it far enough to the top of the hook that it won't rub your hand whether you use the "knife" or "pencil" hold. Smooth as glass! Size I (5.5 mm), just over seven and one-half inches long. Heirloom quality.
