"Winds of Summer"
Materials: Holly, Acrylic
From the East, from the West, the Winds of Summer blow. A gentle breeze, a sudden uplift, and the sun's warmth lilts through your hair, your thoughts, and brings beauty to your mind. Swirls and eddies caress your temples, and blow lovely images into your nature.
I began this hook with one of my very favorite woods -- Holly. Gloriously white, one of the only woods with purity of color, she's got very fine grain and is marvelous for creating crochet hooks! I turned a very pretty shape, with a fillet at the bottom of the large bead, and made the most perfect "ball" at the top! I couldn't resist carving a swirling wind-inspired design, made of tiny little dots, which wraps all the way around the top!
I then painted the dots with blues and turquoises, using varying shades to achieve a jewel-like effect. Very very pretty in the hand -- the metallic acrylics shine in the light! This ornamentation does have a little texture to it, so I made sure to put it far enough to the top of the hook that it won't rub your hand whether you use the "knife" or "pencil" hold. Size P (11.5 mm), seven and three-quarter inches long. Heirloom quality.
