"Deco Torchiere"
Materials: "Modern Retro" Dyed Hardwood, Acrylic
In Cheyenne, the old train Depot has some of the lovliest architectural design -- all in Art Deco. This little hook reminds me of the wonderful radiant designs, and the magnificent lighting fixtures built into the building.
I began with one of my special custom colors, "Modern Retro" ** Dyed Hardwood, and cut several staccato-esque wave-forms before turning a long vase shape, upon which is "perched" a golden ball. This "ball of light" is created by hand-carving a textured design, then painting it with metall acrylics. I added several different colors of paint to create a subtle look, and bring vibrancy to the piece. Of course, this ornamentation does have a little texture to it, but it's well out of the way, on the end of the hook, so that it won't rub your hand whether you use the "knife" or "pencil" hold. This piece is signed with my artist's mark.
I hand-turned this hook from dyed and laminated hardwood that's been impregnated with resin and densified, thus made extremely strong and durable, and also resistant to temperature variations and moisture. Smooth as glass! Size H (5 mm), just over seven and three-quarter inches long. Heirloom quality.
