Materials: Spalted Jucaro, Bali Coral, 24k Gold Plated Findings
For some reason, this little case reminds me of the Old World, the East India Company, Raffles Hotel (in Singapore), and monsoon season: the rains that arrive promptly every day at 3:00, sepia-toned maps, and pastel sea monsters that live just beyond uncharted waters. I chose a piece of Spalted Jucaro for the body of the case, and it turned out gorgeously! The black tracings of spalting make squiggles here and there, creating a most cartographic effect, as though the ancient mariners themselves has drawn continents on the piece. I couldn't resist adding a band of peachy red Bali Coral, which accents the piece perfectly, as well as adds an additional thalassic touch!
