The "She" Series addresses the social mores that exist in American society. Through media and social pressure, the "shes", the women and girls of society, are pressured to conform to extreme ideals of "beauty," which leads to destruction. Severe depression, radical weight-loss and body-altering methods, anorexia, bulimia, and ultimately suicide are the results of society's callous regard for people who look different.
These works tell the story of the person who is oppressed and abused by society, cataloging her feelings and thoughts, telling the story of her life. These pieces portray expressions of loneliness, rejection, oppression, destruction, and above all: hope for change.
These works are intimate and represent some of the finest examples of wood art, being very finely made and expertly finished. As with the rest of my work, please do not hesitate to e-mail me if you would like to see higher-resolution photographs before purchasing.
