To make all of the items that I do, I use many different kinds of materials -- most of which are different types of wood. When I first started woodworking, I was astounded at all of the amazing natural patterns and colors that wood possessed.
With this miniature encyclopedia, I hope to show you some of the woods that I enjoy working with. It's definitely a work in progress -- in my shop I have over 100 different species, not to mention all of the Dyed Hardwoods and Man-made materials I use.
Each of the photos is from a piece that I've made -- so you can see exactly what it looks like when the wood has been expertly cut, sanded, and finished -- a process which brings out the true beauty of the wood.
I've decided to sort them by category, so some woods may appear in several spots, depending on their properties. There's also an alphabetical listing at the end.
